Melissa Alves

Biography
Melissa joined Sigma Partners in 2003. She brings to the firm over 20 years of business, accounting and financial management experience from both venture capital and public accounting firms.
Background
Melissa has over ten years of experience in the venture capital industry. Previously, Melissa spent five years at Weiss, Peck and Greer Venture Partners, where she held the positions of chief financial officer and senior vice president. While at Weiss, Peck & Greer, Melissa managed the finance and administrative functions for twelve families of venture capital and private equity funds. She oversaw day-to-day operations, reporting to limited partners, and fundraising logistics. Prior to joining Sigma Partners, Melissa also served as chief financial officer and administrative partner at Blacksmith Capital Partners, where she was a member of the founding team. Earlier in her career, Melissa was a senior manager in the audit practice at Ernst & Young, LLP in both Toronto and San Francisco. While at Ernst & Young, Melissa provided audit and business advisory services to private and public companies, with a focus on financial services clients.
Education
Melissa holds a B.A. in Honors Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada). She is a Chartered Accountant and a member of both the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.
