History and Culture
Sigma was founded in 1984 by Burgess Jamieson and Brad Jeffries, both of whom had years of background in venture capital and emerging technology companies. Jamieson and Jeffries knew from experience that the key to venture success was mastering the art of making good judgments quickly on very little information. They also understood this talent was best found in those who have walked in the shoes of entrepreneurs. That is why we have assembled a team of veteran business professionals with extensive backgrounds in operating companies -- not in venture capital or finance. As a result, Sigma has built an exceptionally successful and stable firm, one that has endured through changing markets, technologies and business cycles.
With roots firmly planted in operational experience, a unique culture of collaboration has flourished for over 20 years. Because the mastery of business operations requires an understanding of how all the pieces of a business fit and work together, Sigma’s partners apply their diversity of experience in collaborating to get the best business results.
From the beginning, we believed that great investment opportunities come from all regions of the United States. To fund these opportunities and leverage knowledge nationwide, we work as one cohesive team out of offices in Silicon Valley and Boston.
